At Illinois Recovery Center, each day is designed with intention–to nurture healing, build structure, and support your personal path to recovery. While every client’s journey is unique, here’s a glimpse into what a typical day might look like in our residential program.

Morning: Setting the Tone for the Day
The day begins with a peaceful morning routine, followed by a nutritious breakfast shared with peers. Before breakfast, many clients choose to start their day in our full basketball court gymnasium, weight room, or cardio room, which are open each morning for those looking to boost their mood and energy through movement.
From there, we gather as a community for a morning huddle, a moment to ground ourselves, set intentions, and begin the day with purpose.
Your morning continues with group education sessions that explore meaningful topics like:
- What is Addiction?
- Emotions in Recovery
- Spirituality
- Family & Relationships
- Core Values
These sessions are led by compassionate professionals and designed to meet you where you are–mentally, emotionally, and spiritually.
Afternoon: Connection, Expression, and Growth
After a satisfying lunch, the afternoon offers space for both growth and creativity:
- Process Groups and Small Groups provide a safe space to share and reflect with peers.
- Creative Expression and Yoga & Meditation allow you to explore healing through art and movement.
- Specialized programming like Family & Recovery, Mental Health & Therapy, and Graduation Planning support both long-term recovery and practical life skills.
Our gym facilities–including the basketball court, weight room, and cardio room–are also open most afternoons for those who want to get active, blow off steam, or simply enjoy physical movement as part of their recovery journey.
There’s also time to unwind, study, or connect with loved ones during free time and phone hours.
Evening: Community & Recovery
Evenings are all about support and connection. After dinner, we come together again for a community huddle, then gather for a variety of recovery meetings, including:
- AA / NA
- SMART Recovery
- Women’s Only AA
- Alumni Meetings
- Dharma Recovery
- The Gathering (a special community-based group)
We close the day with a calming evening routine and lights out, giving your mind and body the rest they deserve.
